Eh Hok Lai
I’ve been taking photographs for about four years now, on and off, and I suppose that you could say that I am a casual photographer.
I would like, one day, to take photographs with more intensitity, yet I tend to shoot only what appeals to me. Ideally, in the fullness of time, I’d like to shoot something really ‘wonderful’, something which blends in with my passion for scenery, architecture and my family. Those are the things which are really important to me.
I enjoy travelling and eating ‘good’ food. So it is only natural that I should like to photograph those things too. I think of myself as a Travel Photographer. I was inspired to become a photographer by the amazing sight of the traditional night paddy harvesting – that was back in 1993. But, I guess, I also wanted to immortalise my parents with portrait photography - so that too is a factor.
I feel that I also want to capture dying traditions – like the night paddy harvesting. I want to capture the special and the beautiful; those things often neglected by people, overlooked until you take a photograph and capture the splendour for all to see.
For my photography I use a digital camera - a Nikon D 7000, before I used the D 3000. For lenses I use 16-85DX F3.5-5.6; 35mm / f1.8. I used to take along a 17-55 / f2.8 lens but it was too big and heavy for travelling.
