Lee Kim Hor
For 35 years I was an automotive and mechanical engineer, specializing in investigation, surveying, assessing and management - now I’m retired.
I’ve had this passion for photography for forty years - right from secondary school, I could tell that the itch was there.
In a way you could say that I still belong to the ‘Old School’ of photography, though I do honour the future too. I am a proud owner of a Minolta Dynax 7 - out of respect for the history of photography and perhaps a little nostalgia, maybe because Minolta was the inventor of the ‘auto-focus’ system, now it’s sold to Sony.
Over the years, and with new developments in photography, I have gained hands-on experience of working in different aspects - from the original analogue (film) to using the digital medium. I’ve found that both film and digital have their pros and cons, though film is getting more expensive due to both the scarcity of the silver it needs and because of environmental and pollution concerns around its mining.
These days I embrace digital photography - with my Canon DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras, lenses and accessories. I use the related digital software, such as an older version of Adobe Photoshop – CS2, Paintshop Pro X2. Photomatrix Pro 4, XARA 3D, Genuine Fractal, Biddle 5 and others to aid editing. I’m still learning as technology doesn’t stand still, nevertheless advances in technology are a catalyst for me and my work.
For the present my photography interests are quite vast. I accept assignments in most fields - except for nudes. I like photographing engineering, factory environments, nature, group activities, children, landscape, architecture, products, interiors and others - including macro photography, HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography and images of smoke trails. I own a Canon i9500 printer (up to A3+ printing) and enjoy printing when I can’t get outside to shoot, because of the weather.
