Ryan Tang Han Hooi
After a decade in photography, Ryan Tang Han Hooi is steadfast in his aspirations to be a Nat Geo photographer so he can experience nature and get close to wildlife. Currently, he is a commercial assignment photographer, hired directly by companies to take specific images for fashion advertising, beauty products, catalogues and architectural shots for corporate brochures, among other.
Ryan Tang works also entails working directly with end customers. His interest in photography provides him the ability to preserve and bring back memories in his photographs, he says. He continues to explain that his freestyle approach is well suited for outdoor photography because it provides him a freehand to shoot whatever he wants as long as the subject is of interest to him, unlike shooting for a commercial purpose.
Being a nature lover, wildlife photography is his favourite because it is totally different compared to his current focus. “Despite the danger, there is the excitement to explore nature along with the movements of animals.” Ryan exclaims. When asked to elaborate on his philosophy, he explains the necessity to explore many different perspectives in order to capture the perfect shot, which entails capturing the best light, moving closer to the subject, crouching down, using different lenses, selectively focusing on certain elements, and the list goes on....
“In doing so, the photographer may be trying to capture the picture by using different ways to get something he/she thinks is the best. Trust your own talent, eye, perceptions, sensitivity”, is his advise to newcomers to the field.
